How to Measure a Bandsaw Blade

Measure a blade that already fits

For a welded bandsaw blade, the length is the complete loop length. Do not use the shipping-box length or measure only one straight side of the loop.

1. Unplug and secure the saw before handling the blade.
2. If you have a blade that fits, mark one point on the band and place that mark at a reference point on the floor or workbench.
3. Roll the blade through one complete revolution until the mark returns to the reference point. Measure the distance traveled. That is the finished loop length.
4. Measure blade width from the back edge of the band to the tooth tip.
5. Measure band thickness with a micrometer or caliper away from the tooth.
6. Confirm tooth pitch or spacing from the blade marking, invoice, or mill documentation.
